When I had a Chevy Citation I silver soldered a 1/8 pipe female fitting on the fuel line from the filter to the TBI after removing it and then I installed a 1/8 pipe nipple and drilled a hole into the gas line. After reinstalling the gas line I installed a 1/8 plastic gas line to the fitting and then to the gauge. Then I discovered why the engine would quit then restart right away. The fuel pressure would drop off and the engine would die. I pulled the gas tank and found the sock on the fuel pump inlet full of rust. I cleaned the tank and installed a new pump. There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
