I looked at a john deere 4030 recently. I posted this on the john deere forum also. It is a quad-range with a rops canopy, diesel. It has 9000 hours, and the price is great. My only concern is the quad-range transmission. It powershifts fine between 1-2 and 3-4 in all ranges and all the reverses are smooth. In C and D range it takes off smooth in all gears. However in A and B it takes off real quick, no matter how low the throttle is it wants to lurch forward. Also 1-2 gears are somewhat hard to get into, the gears are there and work, but it takes 1 or 2 times of putting it into that gear spot for it to catch the gear sometimes. It was used with a loader feeding cattle its whole life. The PTO works and it supposedly had a new clutch within the last few 1000 hours. There are no weights at all on it, could it be lurching due to no front weights? Are the clutch packs possibly going and possibly the ball bearing mechanism that hold it in 1-2 gears when shifting or any other ideas?
