My dad has an aging Kubota L210. Two or three years ago he replaced the starter with an aftermarket gear reduction unit. Recently he asked me to take a look at his machine because the starter was grinding but not turning over the engine. The good news is that the flywheel is OK. The bad news is that the starter gear is wiped. I suspect it was either the wrong pitch or was not correctly shimed because he uses the tractor rarely. (at 81 years old steering them manual steering jobs with a loader bucket attached is a workout!) Anyway, I checked with the local Kubota dealer and they want almost $600 bucks for a new starter. My dad can't decide whether he wants to spend the money to fix the tractor or sell it as is and get a new (or newer) one. Question: Is there a good source for an alternative starter that would cost less? What might the value of this tractor be in rough numbers? (has loader, all hydrallics work well, engine still sound, tranny good, moderate to good tread) fair condition as far as looks. (still orginal paint) Any ideas appreciated. Thanks. JDD
