Ideal charging voltage for a 6V battery is 6.9 summer and 7.2 winter. An 8V battery's ideals are 9.2 summer and 9.5 winter.
Those 6.5V lights are going to shine bright but only for a short period of time with an 8V battery.
An 1/2 charged medium sized 8V battery with Walmart battery cables isn't going to shove any more current and voltage through the starter/ignition coil. Than a large 6V with high CCA and two 00 cables with properly made connections.
