In many cases, the PO never lubricated or replaced the bushings on the kingpins/knuckles-whatever term you prefer. Lets use the Allis B as an example. The kingpin will have wear on the outside (toward the spindle) at the bottom and wear on the opposite side at the top. Replacing the bushings does not correct all the camber error this wear causes. The Allis spindle has the original lathe centers still in place. Is the alloy of this part such that welding the worn places and remachining to original diameter is safe and practical? Will welding weaken the part? I plan to use my gas shielded MIG and plain wire. Is there anything about the original alloy that would make my weld too hard to be machined? Have seen lots of good posts on welding and hope many will offer their advice. Thanks to all.
