Priming is needed. Take the oil pressure gauge fitting out of the block. Use a pump type oil can with straight 40wt oil in it (helps prime). Make a rubber gasket to seal the oil pump tip into the threads, from a piece of small diameter hose. Pump until the system is filled. It could take 5 cans if the oil filter is not precharged. When primed, it will get much harder to pump. Put the gauge line back in and fire it up. It should catch in a few seconds. If the pump is accessible from the outside (cover plate or end cap) remove it and pack the gears with Vaseline and reinstall cover. Doing both is the best. JimN
