I have a '91 but it is intercooled so I guess that makes it more like a '92 or '93. I love it. Has just over 250k. 5 speed tranny was rebuilt around 120k and I haven't had a problem since then. Gets around 17mpg running rough tread tires back and forth feeding cows. Drops a little pulling a trailer maybe 14 or 15. 20 mpg on the highway. (Better than my 4-Cylinder Toyota.) Mine is rusted pretty bad above the windshield but otherwise the body is in good shape. Yes, the paint will peel if it hasn't already. Take care of the engine and you'll have to rebuild the rest of the truck multiple times to keep up with it. If you want a little more horsepower with out much money straight pipe it and turn the screw a little. It'll make a noticeable difference. Have fun, sounds like you got a good 'un.
