Need advice buying parts on-line.

Please share what you've learned about buying parts on-line. Ebay has a way to check to see if people have a good tract record with previuos customers. How can I know this with YT classifieds? Does everyone send the money before the parts are sent? What happens when the item isn't as described? or doesn't show up at all? I bet there are many others new to this that have the same questions. Advice from you more experienced guys would help a lot of us.
