The best thing to do,seriously,is put a Chevy engine in the truck.I did that and used the Ford transmission.Had to drill 2 holes in the belhousing,2 worked, had to have the input shaft on the transmission lengthened a couple of inches by a machine shop and used a ford clutch disc in the Chevy pressure plate.I think the motor mounts needed some torching and had to fabricate an adapter for the clutch linkage. That was 22 years ago and its still working far as I know.I put a 350 Chevy motor in one truck and a 427 in another truck for the same man.On the 427 I used the Chevy transmission and had a driveshaft made that hooked to the Chevy transmission and the Ford rear end. Both times I used adapters and put the Ford sending units for oil and water temp and made an adapter for the clutch linkage. The Moter mounts worked somehow, but I cant remember exactly what it took,Ford motor mounts or Chevy motor mounts on the engines.I think I put Ford motor mounts on the Chevy engine.Hooked the radiator up with pieces of pipe and on one of them the hoses worked, but the radiator had the outlet on the other side so I took it to a radaitor shop and had it moved to the other side, needed fixed anyway. That was after blowing the second 370 the same season. It took a while on the one I had the machine shop make the input shaft, but the other one took about 3 days.

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
