gun guru, My family has always owned our own tank. I have followed suit also! I own 2 tanks both are standard 300 gallon tank. As the others have said and I echo the same you are NOT beholding to any LP company to buy their LP gas so you can shop for the best price around. But You will do ALL maintance on the tank, and pay for it out of your pocket! So having a good working relationship with some LP gas co is important when you need parts and service. Yes most companies get a little twisted if you are completely bone dry, when you get refilled, There is a surcharge to check out your home to make sure you don't blow your self up relighting any pilot lights! Usually that surcharge comes into play at less than 10 or 15 %. In my home LP is only used for heat and and the cook stove, and a fire starter in my fireplace. Again this is where a good working relationship is necessary My local Co doesn't say much about it when I refill in the fall. Hope this helps. Later, John A. PS, I have my second tank of aux use,,, Tractor fuel, BBQ grill tank , Oxygen/LP cutting instead of Accetelene. This tank has a wet line set up to fill bottles and tanks at My leasure! Later!!!
