It is a shame, and not just OLD tractors, either. I teach in a large suburban school district on the North side of Indy. You can travel 4 to 5 miles from that school and be in farm country, but most have never ventured that direction for long enough to be able to absorb any "country" influence. Very few have ANY tie to a farm anywhere in their family tree anymore. A few years back, when I also taught driver education in that district, I'd spend some time out in the rural areas with the kids, and was always amazed at how many had no idea what crops they were looking at, or (in some cases) what animals were in the fields! More than once we stopped to change drivers where I could reach across the fence for a stalk of wheat, or a few soybean pods to use for a little on-the-spot agri-education. "Teachable moments" are where you find them!
