The possible cause:I found weed flak drawn in over the rad, heavy in the area of the engine air intake area and air filtration system.I cleaned up the area by hand then removed the filter,it was reasonaby clean.Unable to get a new one,I washed ,cleaned up and replaced the old filter and added a new oil bath.
The one thing that seemed unusual,I found here.Below the old oil bath was a layer of blue coolent.
I had installed a new head gasket last summer when an overheating issue at that time blew the head gasket to the outside spraying out coolent. I did not check or change the filtration oil bath at that time nor until now. Could this be coolent left from the earlier blown gasket or may this relate to my problem now? When I checked this morning after leaving the tractor sit overnight, the engine oil was dark, and no diesel odour was evident. When left the oil to stand,it had a very slight mirky skim trail in it which does not appear to be much of anything really. I ran the engine a bit today the smoke was grey at first then changed to a light diesel burning colour. There was no evidemce of the thick black smoke like expierenced when it lost power. I plan to tighten the fan belt, and give her a working test tomorrow some time.My progress to date. Thanks
