My neighbor had one knee put in last year. After she was home for a few days, it got infected. They had to rush her back to the hospital and remove the new knee-joint . They blamed it on bad parts and teflon getting into her blood. They sent her back home in a wheel chair with no knee at all and she had to wait three months before she was healthy enough to put a knee back in. A year later, she got her other knee done and all went fine.
That alone convinced me I'd never get two knees done at once, any more than I'd get two eyes worked on at the same time. If there's a screw-up, at least you've still got one leg to hop on, or one eye to see out of.
