A flail mower will usually do a nicer job on grass than a rotary mower or brush hog. The flails pick up the grass that your tractor's tires have laid down so that everything gets cut to the same length. Also, flail mowers don't leave a windrow like some rotary mowers. On the down side, flail mowers are more expensive than equivalent rotaries, require more power, and can be costly to repair. I have both a flail mower and a brush hog, and I prefer the flail for grass, and the brush hog for heavy brush and saplings. If you're only mowing grass and light brush, I'd recommend the flail mower. I don't have any experience with the heavy duty flail mowers, they may be able to handle heavy brush.
