run a hd diesel oil designed for heavy duty work as it is designed perfectly for your application.
You can get these oils in 15w-40 and 5w-40 at any truck stop, auto parts and walmarts...
you can buy chevron delo, shell rotella or mobil delvac oils.
These oils are formulated with extra wear additives to fight wear, extra base additives to fight acid build up from moisture and combustion by products, extra extreame wear and heat additives with moly and zinc, that regular oils do not have. They are designed for soot suspension to keep the engines clean for longer oil change intervals... The recommended change interval is 10,000 miles in a heavy duty applications. If your starting in very very cold weather, then get the 5w-40.. if you not plowing snow at minus 30, then the 15w-40 will do fine for most of us.
HD oils due to the additives will start to clean the engine of sludge and varnish build ups.. so if you gaskets a hard and cracked, you can see increase weeping or small leaks as years of sludge is removed and the bad gaskets are now exposed.
So.. good news is that there are lots of great hd motor oils out there for your tractor that will work great!!!

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
