I asked a person at the Unemployment Office one time about drawing unemployment if you get fired and he told me that it depended on " why " you got fired. That was here in Kentucky , though , probably different from state to state on the local law scene , but the Federal law scene would be the same everywhere . You have to file a complaint or whatever to get it and then argue with your company who might protest it and the Unemployment Office who makes the final decision. After that you have to go to court ,etc. Well, you get the picture. Be fore warned ,though , their not going to let you have it if they can help it . The more they can keep, the more for them in the U.E. accounts. I've been there before and I know others who have been there ,too. I also know where you're comming from . My last job was emotionally and mentally stressful, also. If you have a family emergency then you may ( if you have been there long enough )qualify for F.M.L.A. ( Family Medical Leave Act ) But you have to apply for it and show reasons why you need it and get approved . This can last up to a certain time length, then you have to reapply. Do a search for it.
