I have an engine hoist which I used to support the engine half while doing the actual splitting. Before I split it though I got two pieces of 3 x 3 angle iron and drilled the holes to line up with the side channel irons and used them to stabilize the engine after it was split. I used a hydraulic jack under the forward transmission housing to support the back half. Be sure to lock both rear brakes to help stabilize the back end. To help you get the clutch shaft lined up if you disassemble the clutch you should use a pilot shaft to line up the clutch plate splines with the pilot bushing. Worked OK for me.
