If you scrape the bell housing flange to bare metal you should find the tractor serial number, Left hand side of the tractor in the area of the bowl on the the air cleaner where the engine flange curves up around. To determine the year, take the first two numbers and subtract four from them, thats the year. If the SC follows its bigger brother the DC it may have never been equipped with an oil filter. My 39 Dc also has a removable screen in the pan and no external filter. mEl
