I use yellow beach sand. I can get it from the sand pit near here that washes, dries and sifts the sand for $20 a ton bulk. This sand is softer than silica white sand and does not heat up the metal so bad. The trick is to blast a large area, kinda like you are rinsing it with a water hose, rather than clean a small spot totally clean at one time. This action alone will keep the temp down. Use as low a pressure as possible. The sand hitting the metal is like thousands of little hammers hitting and this will create a surface stress in the metal also causing warps. Practice on some junk parts and you will learn the best method for you. I use a old 105 cfm compressor at about 70 PSI. This works great for me. Hope this helps, Bill
