tv reporting that I 40 is closed, both ways, at mile marker 3 near the TN-NC border. Traffic routed around by way of Johnson City, TN. Glad we missed it a couple of weeks ago.
This is not an uncommon ocurance. They had to dig the roadway through steep mountain sides in unstable rock. They have walls and various kinds of big chain link fencing to slow down rocks.
