Hello JoeBob/IN, Fuller transmissions are not synchronized, and the proper way to shift them is by double clutching. Most drivers, including the ones where I worked, were able to shift them, without the use of the clutch. Fuller does not recommend this practice. The reason is that by shifting without the clutch, prevents lubrication at the main shaft key. When you double clucth, pressure is removed from the key and it gets lubed. This will be evident when the transmission is disassembled. I have taken apart transmissions shifted without the clutch, and you can see the wear on the main shaft and lock pin. They will last a long time no matter how you shift them, there are a good designed product. Guido.
