part with lip or spring and/or lip goes to fluid side unless its grease seal. for some applications(like loader pins) then lip goes out. if you pump grease in then it would move seal out. spindle bearings are good example if it has zerk then lip goes out. if not then in.

Earthmaster Project Progress Just a little update on my Earthmaster......it's back from the dead! I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned.
