Years ago when I worked for the international dealer we sold a fellow a 1680 axail flow combine 2 wd with a8 row wide head. He rented land all over and was going to be the new corn king of the area. I get a call from the boss on a Saturday to see if I can out and fix the combine. He told my boss that they were stuck and broke something on the axle. Loaded up the truck with tools and welders and stuff. I drive the 1.5 hours there to the field,the guy says you cant get to the combine with atruck so we go in a 4 wheel drive tractor. I get there and the rear axle and part of the frame is laying about 50 ft from the combine hooked to a large 4 wheel drive tractor.There were two backhoes and four tractors all there tring to get this combine out. He hit a spring or water hole and the combine sank down and down the more they pulled the farther it went down.they had been there for a day and half digging,they had pumps tring to pump the water out of the hole they had dug with the backhoes.The next day they had to start to lift the combine and setting it on large timbers a little at a time to get it back up to sea level. The operators platform was level with the ground at one point.Only if we had digital cameras back then it would have made for some good talk on the stuck and troubled board.The owner just said when can it be running again,just get it back together.Went back in two days with some steel and welder and hoses for the steering and patched it back together to get it out of the field.Once the combine started to move I didnt see it again untill he was done his crop. So much for quick patch job to move the machine.It held together for about 600 more acres.He floated it back to shop and we replaced the whole under frame unit later that winter.
