I am having some trouble with the drive chain on my John Deere snow blower. For sure,It is getting a bit more of a work out this winter here in the Annapolis valley of Nova Scotia. It seems were back to the old time winter weather. One storm just passed and another has already started. My questions: What is the rule of thumb for applying the proper tension to the drive chain through the idler sprocket adjustment? This is one of the smaller blowers(3 blade fan) and I power it with a John Deere 510 deisel tractor. For the most part it works well, but it does plug up in the chute when the snow is wet or heavy.I understand other types of blowers are designed with the fan blades cupped out and do not plug up like the one I am using.Does anyone have any experience improving on an old blower design to prevent this problem?Power does not seem to be a problem.I cut off sheer bolts often when it plugs up.Thanks in advance for any expertise anyone can share with me with these problems.

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
