Hi BD, You can put a filter in the high pressure line but there more expensive as they now have to be pressure rated. Filters are installed in the suction side of the pump and have a internal bypass valve incase they plug up thus they can never cavitate the pump. A suction screen can plug but some do have bypass valve. Filters are flow rated so they have to be sized to the system. As one of the posters pointed out, most tractors the filter is in the reservoir on the pump intake. If yours doesn't have one be sure and check the parts manual as alot of tractor owners removed them and didn't install a new filter. T_Bone
