The Japanese were defeated before the a bombs, they just didn't realize it. Read Flyboys. The bombs just wrapped it up. When you say basically the a bombs defeated Japan you are saying that all the men that fought in Iwo Jimma, Okinawa, The Marianas, New Guina, the Phillipines, Alaska, under the seas, on the surface and in the air and the efforts of countries like New Zeland, Austrila, UK, China basically did not win the war. Very insulting to them. In the Japanese Military and Japanese govt minds the Soviet Union joining the war on 8 Aug 1945 and ripping through Japanese positions in Manchuria (did you even know that happened ?)on the way to the home Islands was far more significent. Heck what was 2 more destroyed cities to the Japanese. They were losing major cities and people by the hundred thousands every day do to General Curtis LeMays B29 firebombing. In fact LeMay was ordered to save a vew cities for "something big". The NAZI's lost to tne men that operated those machines, the machines are usless without men, and most men were Soviet. Although not as much as us the UK, Soviets, and Canadians build an enormous amount of equipment. Just look up the # of T34 tanks produced. So WW2 was a effort of many, everyone providing what they could, none of more important than the goal. A very Socialist event. The war was more complex than 2 bombs and US industrial output.
