If he's got stock 235/75-15" tires in front, he'd need 31" tires on the 3.42 axle to make up the difference. So yeah, a set of 31 X 10.50 X 15" is a pretty common size and would do the trick.
This all reminds me of when John Deere came out with their 55 series tractors in 4WD. All the first ones came with the wrong gears driving the front axles. They would tear up a field something awful. We had to split many new 55s to fix.
