Once at Atsugi, Japan, a brand new 2nd Lieutenant and I had occasion to go to the Navy side of the base. We completed our business, then went to the PX for a cup of coffee, browsed the PX, and finally got back to the squadron about an hour later than we should have.
When we alit from the Jeep, the Lieutenant said, very officiously, "Sergeant, if anyone asks where you were, tell them you were with me".
He thought for a second and said, "On second thought, Sarge, if anyone asks me where I was, I'll tell them I was with you. You probably pull more weight in this outfit than I do".
