'Bout 15 years ago there was a book written called "John Deere's Company". In it there was the explanation how Deere had always been #2 until they came out with the new look in 1960 with the 1010, 2010 and so on. In another book that came out about the same time, "IH: A Corporate Tragedy" it was explained that IH tried to do too much in too many areas and it caught up with them. Also, they had a tendency to release tractors before they were fully debugged.

When I grew up in the middle of Wisconsin in the '50's it always seemed like people who were serious about farming went with either IH or Oliver. Those two poppers weren't all that great on PTO work. IH implements seemed to be able to withstand rocks a little better too.
