Rich, I used a slightly different method of calculating, and came up the same result: a 11.2-28... If the shoe fits, I wear it.. that pair of chains could be made to work by adding or the removal of a few side links.. the main thing is to have the correct width to cover the face of the tire and extend inward on the sidewall..I never have thrown a tire chain, but for the unfortunate people who have,,, they can sure make a mess out of the fenders!
I was in Home of Ecomony in Grand Forks a few years ago and bought a pair of mud chains for my WD45, which has 14.9-28 tires.... They had their little chart that told them the length to cut from the bulk container.. Man oh man,, I thought those buggers were long!! I got home and jacked up a tire and put a tire chain over the tire...I had to chuckle, because I am sure those chains would have fit a 14.9-38... I simply cut them to the proper length. Ironically, these chains replaced the chains that I had originally used on my 8N, which had 11.2-28 tires.. I had widened those mud chains by cutting the center rings out of the X pattern; making them a simple ladder chain that fit my 14.9-28 tires.. . So many things can be done to make use of a good pair of tire chains... Old, If I recall, you have a bit of chain "reworking" experience under your belt also..

The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
