In 1954 IH Neuss (Germany) built the first Farmall DLD-2 (D=German, Light Diesel - 2 cylinder). This was meant to be the diesel equivalent of a Cub. It had a 2 cylinder 66 cub inch engine running at 1750 rpm producing 12 to 14 HP (DIN) (numbers vary in different references). 5 speed gear box, 540 rpm pto, and later ones had a cat 1 3pt linkage. Total production 5480. In 1956 this was replaced by the Farmall D-212 (German, 2 cylinder 12 HP (DIN))with 6 speed gearbox and differential lock. 3602 built plus 150 Dairy-Special versions, largely for the Netherlands. There was also a more powerful version the D-217 Farmall which had the engine bore increased and engine speed increased to 1900 rpm to give 17 HP (DIN) In 1958 the D-212 Farmall was replaced by the D-214 Standard (they found that the high clearance was not so desirable in Europe and that a standard arrangement (like the Ford, Ferguson or International B-275) was more desireable). There were 8046 D-214 built until it was followed by the D-215 in 1962. Production of the D-215 finished in 1964 with production of 2318 tractors. IH Komatsu in Japan built a 2 cylinder standard type tractor model 232 possibly that used the same 66 cub inch 2 cylinder diesel. The only change in the D-215 over the D-214 was the 15 hp (SAE) versus 14 HP (DIN) (same engine same speed) was the provision of side lights on the fenders and the wheels were all white as against the earlier red with white rims.
