About mid model year, 1953, Chev came out with the blue flame thing on their engines. It was still the 235 CI six lunger, but they got away from the babbited rods and put main bearings and rod bearings in them. Gave them a higher RPM for a sustained period. I can still remember the forerunner of the 235. It was a 216 CI, 6 banger, and if ya drove it over 60MPH for more than 30 mins., when ya got home, if ya did, get out the wrenches an files. Drop oil pan, pull rod cap, insert plastigage, an see how much babbit ya gotta file off. THOSE WERE THE DAYS. Come ta think about who ever said they were the good old ones?
