Anyway, talked to the kid today that did the work. He said to use it through the winter and, if not better in spring when I can afford the time, he'll redo everything free labor and I only buy the parts that I didn't buy before (he'll buy the ones I just replaced new). It seems a little better though. Ran it about 4 hours today and no noticeable loss. He said that the rings still needed to seat. Asked about why everything wasn't replaced and he said "trust me". We'll see, but I think he's pretty good.
If I had major problems, wouldn't I have excessive blowby and suffer as far as power?
For the last 20 years, I'd buy 10-15 year old cars (150+k miles) and drive em til the repairs would cost more than a replacement. I always changed the oil and used slick50 (for startup protection) and castrol 20w50 oil. Think that would be a smart move for my tractor?

details first:
1964 McCormick D326 (German made farmall)
3cyl Diesel (DD-111) motor
Going through quite a bit of oil the last few weeks. Rod bearings had to be replaced because I didn't realize it and ran out of oil. Anyway, engine work is all done and things are OK EXCEPT ......... Starts a little harder (takes longer) and smokes pretty bad for a little bit. Runs fine after it warms up. Looks like a classic valve seal problem, but goes through a bunck of oil. No oil in water or water in oil, no visible leaks, doesn't smoke after it runs a minute or so.
Should I be looking somewhere else? Is there a wonder drug that will tighten the valve seals to get me through the winter (need it daily in winter and can't afford downtime)?
