Dogs are man's best friend but if they break their leg and you if can't afford the vet bill, you should put the dog down? Animals and dogs in particular give us years of companionship and don't ask for much in return. The least we can do is help them when they need medical attention. $600 doesn't seem really steep although vet's do charge high rates. In the overall picture, if you want animals, you should realize that they will probably need some medical attention at some point. A person with a broken leg would never be put to sleep or if it was cattle that needed some attention, farmers wouldn't hesitate to call the vet because they wouldn't want to lose money if the cattle died. Many people on this forum have said dogs are better than people yet now some say that they can't be compared. It's a little different if the dog is very old, then putting them down,so they don't suffer, is a good option. Many people think that people should have the same right. I think if you want to have a dog, you should budget for unexpected vet bills. $600 could be wasted on something you don't really need but the dog needs $600 worth of necessary vet bills and all of a sudden you can't afford it.
