Modern rubber belts give good service and traction. Stay away from modern pvc belts...very strong, low stretch, but that characteristic is less tolerant to conforming to the pulley crown. Each pulley must have a larger diameter in the center or the belt will inexplicably wander or throw off. two ply rubber with covers not too thick (conveyors and belt elevators aka"legs" have thick covers to resist abrasion and heat. Don't need that, keep em thin enough to get around your pulleys. belt should an inch or two narrower than the narrowest pulley. Use "clipper typ lacing with nylon pin. dont use large plate type lacing...too much shock when it goes around small pulleys. Cadillac lacing...vulcanized endless. My 3 cents good luck
