Around here, if you tried to hold a trespasser until the law arrived, you'd most likely be charged with unlawful confinement, and the trespasser would get off scot-free. If you used a firearm to hold them until the cops arrive, then it's likely you'd also be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, which is a felony...and upon conviction, you'd lose your right to possess ANY firearms.
None of the above applies, of course, if you're a member of the Sheriff's fraternal lodge, or of the local country club; then, you suddenly have RIGHTS as a landowner.
