This has worked for me on several occasions: 1 - Drain and refill the crankcase and install a new filter. 2 - Remove the rocker box and pour half quart of so of fresh oil over the rockers and valve stems. Leave the box off for now... 3 - Remove the spark plugs. Using a pump oil can, shoot several good squirts of oil into each jug. (A long blast of WD-40 in each hole is good alternative) 4 - Install a fresh battery. 5 - With the plugs still out, crank the motor with the starter until oil pressure shows on the gage. 6 - Check for any valves sticking open - you're likely to find at least one. You can often free a stuck valve by grabbing the top of the stem with a needlenose vicegrips and gently rotating the stem back and forth. WD-40 applied to the valve guides helps. 7 - Replace the rocker box, install some new plugs, fill the radiator and dump some fresh gas in the tank. Then cross your fingers and crank 'er up. If you're lucky you'll be rewarded with a quick (and satisfying!) cloud of blue smoke, followed by a smoothly running motor. Good luck!

12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
