Is there an internal adjustment like that on my little ol 10 gallon 5 cf air compressor? Mine has an adjustment knob which I have turned all the way but it doesn't kick in quick enough when running a nail gun. Sometimes when it leaves a nail head up, I have to go over and manual pull on the popoff valve until the compressor kicks back on. I prefer it to kick in after only a 10 psi loss instead of the 35 or so it does now. I might see if I can take the knob off and get more adjustment out of it.
