Barnrat, Have you made any silage with the Perenial ryegrass?? I have been thinking about trying some. I live in southern Vermont and we crop mostly grasses and have only 20 acres of corn ,but we only milk 50-60 cows. I have a JD 335 round baler with the high moisture kit on it and we wrap all the bales. I did 1,200 silage bales last year. I was reading that Perenial rye was great feed and was thinking about trying some. I also was reading about planting sorghum-sudangrass and cutting it 3 times in a year and making bales out of that. I don't know if it would dry eoungh to bale.... I remember as a kid we used to plant it for green feed and cut it with a JD 16-a flail chopper. The cows ate it like candy.
