First distinction is between "in bin drying" and stand-alone dryers. Generally. stand-alone dryers are more efficient because of the thin grain columns that allow higher air flows directly out. With in stand-alone dryers, there several dryer modes. Continuous flow and 2 batch modes. Older dryers with no metering rolls had to empty the dry batch completely, then refill, and then could start drying again. Now with metering rolls, Automatic Batch dryers refill as they are unloading. No wasted time. Consider if you need to unload cool grain from the dryer or if you can cool in the bin. If you can slowly cool grain in the bin, it saves fuel, increases throughput, and reduces stress cracks on the grain. I service dryers and find Farm Fans to be a good dryer, with several models to choose from. Happy to answer any other questions.
