Byran, no question here, definitely use acid. Contrary to what some people think, the battery does not convert water into acid. The electrolyte starts out with a given concentration of acid in water. From then on water is added to replace water that evaporates, but the acid itself does not evaporate. Refilling your battery with water would result in electrolyte that has too low an acid concentration. If you need acid it can be purchased from a battery shop or auto parts store. I bought a gallon over twenty years ago, used a small amount, and have been walking around what's left of it ever since. To avoid the same fate just take the battery to a battery shop and have them top it off for you...Al English
