Does your GP wire go to one plug and then you have a bridge (??) connecting the rest together, and the indicator is a small coul that you see through a salt shaker looking cap on the dash?
If so, could it be that someone modified it to take normal glowplugs like in the picture I posted above?
If that's the case, that modification was supposed to do away with the bridges, indicator, and maybe the switch (if it worked in conjunction with the starter button.
For mine, I used real heavy gauge wire and a pushbutton (horn) switch.
Ran a wire from + on the battery to the switch. Then, with the same type wire, button to a small junction strip, and from the strip to each individual glow plug doing away with the old wiring.
Then just count to 10 or however long you figure out is good enough to heat up.
