Follow up responses to this post has been most enjoyable. There seems to be people from all walks of life interested in old tractors and farming in general. I am a Canadian, and a Maritimer living in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia.Apple farming has been big here in the past but not so now. Many of the small family farms here have been absorbed into large farming operations. I grew up on a family farm here.Livestock, hay gathering, potatoe farming and woods work were all a part of daily life for me as a farm boy. We had a 35 Massey Ferguson, and a John Deere B.I spent many hours on these tractors as a kid plowing, discing, cultivating, spraying, hauling hay, wood and whatever else on the farm.I still enjoy tractors to this day. I am 53+ and have worked for the local school Board in the Maintenace department for the past 30 years. I own 30 acres adjoining the original farm I grew up on.My dad sold the farm and is now retired living next door but still has the Massey Ferguson. The John Deere B was sold a number of years ago. To make a good living from these small farms became increasingly difficult when I was young. There was plenty of hard work but little pay.As a result I looked for something else to do for a living but never lost my love for the farming way of life. My last tractor was a John Deere A.It reminded me of the B I used to use as a boy on the farm.It was great, the putt, putt, the pull this tractor had and all.The stuff memories are made of for sure. I sold it and now have a 510 John Deere.I now use it mainly for snow blowing in the winter and basically play around with it in the summer. We have a few strawberries this year. I enjoy this forum and have been lurking, following the list, sometimes posing questions and receiving very good information back from others. It is a joy that meaningful information can be distributed to others so freely through this forum. I have been lurking on tractor forums ever since Spencer Youst began with his antique Tractor Forum.Great Stuff!!

The Ferguson System Principal An implement cutting through the soil at a certain depth say eight inches requires a certain force or draft to pull it. Obviously that draft will increase if the implement runs deeper than eight inches, and decrease if it runs shallower. Why not use that draft fact to control the depth of work automatically? The draft forces are
