Hi Mike, I tried Naval Jelly on some heavily rusted parts & NOTHING happened. Thinking my bottle might be bad I tried one from another store & got the same results. It contains phosphoric acid, the same thing that is in metal-prep and alumi-prep cleaners used by painters. I'm guessing that like these products, Naval Jelly will remove light rust. For heavy rust, media blasting works best. A wire brush on a drill or grinder will also do the job, but leaves rust in the pits and recesses of the castings. Metal-prep after wire brushing to finish the job. Wire brushing smooths down the casing texture a little, so if you're a purist, blast with a relatively fine media to avoid the same issue. Good luck...Al English
