here in nm when you go to redgister a vehicle they can tell on their computer if your insured, and for how long, they wont redgister a car with less than 6 months coverage and a commercial unit must have a full year if you cancel, the state notifies you, if you dont provide proof of insurance your licence becomes invalid and your posted on local law enforcements hot sheet, if your vehicle is seen on the road you get a free ride in a police unit , too may low lifes here were doing the same thing, since their driving skill is minimal at best they hit things and people and have no way to pay for damages with out being insured , there is a clause where you can be self insured, [ if you want the risk] but you must maintain over one hundred thousand bucks in a bank account for that purpose , lol not many do that as it also leaves then open to slick lawyers to sue them for even more
