Either is not good, but sometimes needed. How cold is it where you are? If it gets below 20, put a tank heater/ plug heater on it & plug it in for an hour be4 starting. If you are having starting problems above freezing, get the problem fixed. Do you have glow plugs? Use them, or get them fixed if they aren't working. (Note that some types of glow plugs can cause your intake manifold to explode with the use of either.) Do you have winter oil in it, that can make a big, big difference. --->Paul
