Doesn't really help with starting. The only things that will help a deisel start in the winter are:
A heater of some sort in the coolant.
A manifold heater or glowplugs.
Either- But be very carefull to not use too much!!!!
An engine with god compression
A good battery, good connections, and a fast spinning starter.
The heet and lucas additives will help keep the water out fo the fuel and maybe keep it from gelling, but doesn't do anything for ease of starting. In my mind Heet is kind of a waste of money. Deisel 911 and other addtives do help prevent gelling and help lubricate the injection pump and such.
