Back in 1970 my dad bought a JD 140 garden tractor. Had the origional JD battery in it for 29 years. In all fairness, the JD battery was built like a tractor battery, not those toy batteries we get now in garden tractors. We used tha tractor pretty heavy, even as a booster battery when the others wouldn't start. My hats off to whoever was building the JD batteries back then. Tractor has gone thru a couple-three replacements since then. (automotive batteries)

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet).
