Actually I sent the following as an e-mail to Rory Day in support of his endeavour. Then I thought I should express these thoughts on the board to help evoke more feedback-

I notice a lot of people are giving you jabs about the name of the magazine. Thats not why I'm e-mailing you but I'll give you my 2cents worth anyway. To me "classic" invokes images in the mind of "special", "outstanding", "slightly ahead of their time" etc. and most of this tends to be seen in retrospect. So it would seem to me that you might not expect to see a "classic" as yet in the newer tractors although some "classics" I think do exist in the time frame you describe. For instance I think there are quite a number of "classics" in the 1965 to 1985 time frame and certainly a number of "future classics" after 1985. You do need a good name and you've probably got one. Why not just put 'after 1965' in small print under Classic Tractors. Anyway, you do what you think is best I would like to support you in your effort and wish you the best.

Now the real reason I am e-mailing you. I am a collector of 'Versatile' tractors and memorabilia. I have been looking for a forum to promote this a little bit and hear from others similarly interested. I have two of the very first Versatiles produced- a D100 and a G100. They were only produced for the one year (1966) and there were only 100 diesels and 25 gas tractors produced. I also have a D118 and a G125 which were the models which followed in 1967. I have the original advertising "print mat" from Versatile for the D100 as well as many, many other unique items.

I think that these tractors fit into what you are wanting to do and I would like to offer you any material and assistance I can. The D118, G125, D145, and 900 models are probably all very interesting tractors that would fit your magazine. There's also 'Big Roy'- 600HP which would make an excellent feature and just so you know, Big Roy is still around and running.

While I am interested particularly in Versatile, all of the early 4WD's probably are classics. Big Toys for Big Boys, eh!

Today's Featured Article - Old Time Threshing - by Anthony West. A lovely harvest evening late September 1947, I was a school boy, like all school boys I loved harvest time. The golden corn ripens well and early, the stoking, stacking,.... the drawing in with the tractors and trailers and a few buck rakes thrown in, and possibly a heavy horse. It would be a great day for the collies and the terrier dogs, rats and mice would be at the bottom of the stacks so the dogs, would have a busy time hunting and killing, all the corn was gathered and ricked in what we c ...
