For only two gauges, I think running wires would be your simplest and cheapest solution. Of course wireless transmitter/receiver setups are used for a number of applications: home weather stations and tire pressure monitoring are a couple of examples. These things are cheap because they're able to build them in huge volumes. I don't know of any cheap general-purpose solutions.
